Improve Vertical Jump

A vertical jump involves the usage of the muscles for elevation of the body’s center of gravity in the vertical plane. A vertical jump measures the height up to which a person can jump when he starts from the stationary standing position. If a person is good in vertical jump, it is of immense help in many sporting events like volleyball, basketball, football and others. For measurement of the vertical jump, a person is required to stand at a wall which has a completely flat surface. After that, the person keeps on jumping continuously from the stationary position, and the highest height that he can achieve is called the vertical jump.

Test of the vertical jump

The vertical jump test basically gives the correct result of the height of the vertical jump. For this purpose, the measuring tape is attached with a waist belt, and the former is then connected to a mat. The person is required to jump after the tape has been set to the zero position. The reading of the tape is the height of the vertical jump. This test reveals the strength of the lower body of a person. “Vertec” is a commercial device used for the purpose of measuring a vertical jump. However, the results so obtained must not be compared with other tests such as the 1RM power clean, etc. Strength of the vertical test

The rationale to improve vertical jump assumes that power is nothing but a combination of speed and strength. So production of power is absolutely essential in order to improve vertical jump. This requires the enhancement of the associated qualities like speed and strength. Increasing the strength is the primary requirement if a person is looking forward to improve vertical jump. It is a fact that almost the entire force which is needed for the purpose of a vertical jump is the result of the co-ordination of the calves, lower back, hamstrings [parts of the posterior chain] and quadriceps [which forms a part of the person’s anterior chain]. So to improve vertical jump, the factors mentioned above must be given the highest importance.
