Great Snow All over the French Alps
There’s been about 2 meters of snowfall during the last seven days. It has been so deep that lifts have been closed, the railroad train has been stopping at Chamonix’s train staion and not going onwards to Monroc. Roads have been shut and weather announcements released.
This is in direct contrast to a few seasons past, when there was the unusually mild January weather, earth appearing on the mountain, and admonitions that global warming could mean the finish of snowboarding in the French Alps. Highlighting this the OECDs study from winter 2007 admonished that climate change could make ski holidays too pricey for a lot of snowboarders, with a 3rd of skiing resorts becoming insolvent with the thawing of glaciers. Climatologists say that it’s virtually impossible to ascribe the seasonal deviations in the snow conditions to the effects of global warming.
We may be experiencing the biggest recession in 30 years, and the Sterling has dropped to more lows compared to the euro, but the snow is superb, and the last reservations show that snowboarders are keen to revel in the great snow with our ski accommodation booked. This season is definitely the best in ten winters, and many skiers are stating it is the finest ski snowboarding conditions in 10 winters.
All the same think that big dumps like these mean significant avalanches risks.
