Virgin and Universal Collaborate to Offer Movies on Demand
Virgin Media is offering its subscribers a chance to watch movies at home by just paying an extra £5 each month with effect from July. With a roster of 28 movies at any given time, Virgin offers PictureBox, a new movies-on-demand TV subscription that it has launched recently.
Teaming up with Universal Pictures, Virgin Media plans to please its old customers and attract new ones. The already existing 3.6 million Virgin subscribers can add PictureBox to their monthly bill and all those who plan to buy a bundle of Broadband, TV, and phone will also get to avail the PictureBox services - click for info on broadband and phone.
Hot Fuzz, Children of Men, The Bourne Ultimatum, and The Holiday have already made the list of films that are to be shown on PictureBox in the coming months. In addition, the service has plans to showcase timeless classics from Universal Pictures Ltd, like ET- The Extra Terrestrial, which is loved world over. New films will keep on arriving every Friday and many of them will also be in High Definition,
Belinda Menendez, president, NBC Universal International TV Distribution said that this is a big move towards making PictureBox a famed brand. She also pointed out that their service has got a five-fold boost and has become internationally renowned over the past three years.
To make people sit up and take notice, Virgin Media has agreed to give out free installations and is providing a £20 credit on its Size L Broadband, TV (M) and Phone package, but the offer lasts only till 30 July 2009. The Size L service provides 10 MB speed and allows unlimited downloads.
