Attracting Extra Web Hosting Customers By Targeting Cities, i.e. New York Web Hosting

Filed under: Online Web Resources — admin at 7:24 pm on Monday, June 2, 2008

These searchers are looking for a hosting company in a particular city, state, or country, but given the proper message they can often be convinced to try your hosting company. Afterall, given the nature of the web hosting industry, the actual location of your web hosts is not that important. The datacenter they use and the support team are really the 2 most important items.

The next question is how to target these searchers and turn them into visitors to your website. Like any good search engine advice….Content, Content, Conent. The thing to remember is that every page of good content will be found by search engines, not just your homepage. Add a page to your website that reviews the web hosting industry in a city, for example New York, and highlights several of its larger hosting companies. This, at first, might seem like a bad idea, but the page, over time, will be indexed by search engines and show up in searches related to web hosting in that city, New York Web Hosting, New York Web Hosts, etc. This new page will provide them information that they are looking for as well as provide you a potential customer that you otherwise would not have. The key is developing quality content. The internet is full of pages of no information or redundant information. But good unbiased reviews of the web hosting industry in New York or any city such as Atlanta, Chicago, etc. is useful information that potential hosting clients can use.

Some will argue that the reverse is true as well, that this new page is also a page that other potential customers can use to leave your website and signup with a competitor. This might occasionally be true, but for the most part it will attract more customers then it loses. This page does not have to be a page easily found by visitors to your homepage.

Website Sitebuilders: Easy to use Website builders Come with a Price

Filed under: Online Web Resources — admin at 6:50 pm on Saturday, May 17, 2008

Professional web designers don’t come cheap. A good web designer can easily charge you $1000 or more for a five page website. This high cost leads many people to tackle web design for themselves. How hard can it be? Get yourself an HTML editor, throw up a website and voila! Your website is live right? Wrong! There is a lot of knowledge you need to develop before you can get your self made website onto the internet.

What is a Sitebuilder?

More and more web hosting companies today offer Sitebuilder software that takes care of all the technical details to getting your website up and live on the internet. They allow a novice to choose a built in template, select some colors, throw in some pictures, and add some text. Once these steps are done, all the novice has to do is publish their website to the internet. All the hard stuff is taken care of by the Sitebuilder software. So what’s the catch?

Next to Impossible to Move your Website to Another Company.

Most Sitebuilders in use by web hosting companies today are designed to make it as difficult as possible for their users to transfer their website away. Most, if not all the fancy features like counters, navigation, templates, etc… are built into the Sitebuilder and won’t work unless you have an active account with that particular company. If you want to take your website elsewhere, you will have to build your website again from scratch.

Cookie cutter approach tends to look amateurish

Sitebuilders in generally lack the flexibility to allow the website creator to create a website any way they like. Most Sitebuilders out there will lock you into doing things in one way - their way. This leads to websites that can look like they were just thrown together and therefore look unprofessional.

Little ability to handle traffic growth.

Most Sitebuilders come with enough storage space and monthly data transfer to meet the average website’s needs. If your website traffic truly takes off though, chances are, your Sitebuilder company will cut you off. Most hosting companies bank on the fact that 99% of it’s clients will use relatively little resources. If your website starts to use too many server resources, most companies will pull the plug on your website. If your website is built with their Sitebuilder, you’ll be out of luck and in the unenviable position of needing to rebuild your website right when a ton of traffic is hitting a dead page. Not pretty.

Sitebuilder or traditional web hosting account - which is for you?

If you have never put together a website before, and you have no desire to dive into the technical details of putting your website online, a Sitebuilder is probably your best fit. For maximum long term flexibility and growth potential, learning how to get your website live on a traditional web hosting account is well worth the effort. You will end up paying less, you won’t be locked into one company, and you will be able to grow your website as traffic demands it.

The Most Important Tip For Newbie’s - Testing, Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3

Filed under: Online Web Resources — admin at 6:25 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2008

After putting in all of your hard work as a Newbie Webmaster, you would like everything to work properly once you have published your business to the web. This one piece of advice could make the difference between your business being a success or a failure…….

A friend on mine, John, spent months putting his online business together. He often stayed up all night working on research, web design, marketing ect… His poor wife and kids hardly ever saw him. As soon as he came in from his day job, he would shut himself away in the spare room and work on ‘the business’. Then finally, he declared that everything was in place. He had a great domain name and host, fantastic niche products, an impressive website, a marketing and advertising campaign already to go. Everything was uploaded to the servers and traffic was starting to hit his site. “Wonderful” he thought. But………. He had made a vital error………

What did John do that was so wrong?

He didn’t do enough testing. Traffic was visiting his homepage, but most of the links didn’t work. They where unable to navigate to other pages on his site. The important pages, such as sales copy and free downloads where ‘unavailable’. If someone tried to sign-up for his eZine, nothing happened. What a disaster!!! The volume of targeted traffic to his site was quite high, but no one stayed there for very long and no one bought anything. He wasn’t able to build his opt-in list Ezine subscribers that he could email with promotional material. All the months of effort resulted in a big-fat nothing. John was devastated to say the least.

So what did John do next? He could have given up. Thrown his arms in the air with disppear and cried uncontrollably. I know a lot of people that have done this, they have given up because the think that they have failed. But once again, he locked himself away in his spare room and went to work. Every link in every page was tested, retested and tested again. All the opt-in boxes and interactive options where given the same treatment.

What John did next…

He had 7 of his friends test it all over again. He asked them to go to his site and travel around it. Click the links to the pages, use his opt-in boxes. Do things that a customer would do. For their time and trouble he gave them each a free gift. A product that he was offering for sale on his site was theirs just for spending a few minutes surfing Johns site. They all did as they where asked. Guess what? No, it didn’t work perfectly. In fact, there where still several glitches. John fixed them and tested again. His friends visited his site once more. Hey Presto…..Everything worked.

Beware of ‘friends’.

When relying on friends to test your site and report back, there could be a ‘loyalty’ issue. They are after all your friends. Their opinion may not be completely unbiased. If a friend says “It was excellent John”, maybe they thought it was dodgy, but didn’t want to hurt your feelings. So only pick people that you know will be totally honest with you. Their brutality is for your own good. You need to know how a total stranger would feel about your site when they visit. What your Mom thinks isn’t really important.

Keep on testing………

As time goes by you have to make changes to your WebPages. Don’t forget to test the new additions. Get into the habit of checking that the older links are still in working order while your at it. By spending a little bit of time testing often can save you hours if not days of trying to put a problem right when things do go wrong. Also consider the customers that you could lose if your site/links aren’t working properly.

Concluding the story of John…..

John still continues to test the links on this sites. Actually, he pays someone else to do it now. Do you know why? It’s because he’s earning $150,000 a year and he can afford to pay someone else. He spends most of his time jet-setting with the wife and kids he felt he had neglected in the early days of setting up the business. He still does testing himself from time to time. He learned his lesson the hard way and he won’t forget it, ever…… When he spends time clicking through his sites links to make sure that they still operate, he’s usually found doing so on his laptop instead of on his old pc in the spare room. He sits on the balcony of his brand new house, the sun shining as he gazes out at the beach in front of him.

So the #1 tip for Newbie and old-hand Webmasters is test, test and test again. Everything. Then get other people to do the same. Compensate them for their trouble if you can. Never over look how serious this whole testing thing is. If not done properly it can result in disaster and many online businesses fail because of it. Is your business gona succeed or fail?

The Future Of Web Design Is Content Management!

The Future Of Web Design Is Content Management!
By: Martin Lemieux

Web development has greatly increased in popularity over the last 5 years. Many new design concepts, code standards, and technology advances have happened in a short amount of time. With that, so has the knowledge and demand for better, more independent and functional web design packages.

More and more we are starting to see a shift in consumer demand for the increasingly popular website content management system.

Most website owner’s are typical business entrepreneurs who don’t have the time to chase down their web design company for some minor updates that usually cost an arm and a leg. Updates for websites are becoming more and more necessary. It’s now a reality and a trend that in order to make something happen with your website online, you need to stay on top of things and create new content to keep visitors coming back.

As entrepreneurs, we all get new creative ideas almost every day on how to improve our products or services. Without the ability to update our own website’s, those fresh, new ideas may not become a reality for a long time.

Website Content Management Systems Are The Future:

This is somewhat of a call out to all web design companies. If you cannot offer content management to your clients, you may be left in the dust within a few years. The more affordable content management becomes, the more in demand it will be. Without giving your prospects this crucial option, you may lose a great chunk of your potential clients to the next web design company that has a fully automated system that states: “all the consumer has to do is login and get started.”

Granted, there will always be a need for web designers. That is an understatement but with the option of content management, you can also decrease the amount of work needed to put into each project and concentrate more on marketing your business and it’s services.

Content Management Gives The Consumer The Freedom They Need!

Without giving too much freedom that may make the website look bad, there is a high demand for the ability to update a website when needed, not when convenient. People like to have power over managing their own company, content management gives them the freedom they need to expand on their own terms, without extra costs.

Here Are Typical Features Of A “CMS”:

- Add/remove/edit pages.
- Update content within each page.
- Add images where needed.
- Update contact information.
- Show updated listings (i.e. Real estate listings, Mortgage rates).
- Add new tips on their industry everyday (The spawn of blogging).
+ Many extra features not listed here.

Take The Real Estate Industry For Example:

In the last 2 years, “Real Estate Content Management Systems” are popping up everywhere we look. I can recall reviewing over 50 websites that offer this style of service. And why not! Real estate agents as a whole spend a great deal of money marketing themselves. Just in the last couple of years, real estate agents have seen more value in marketing online than they have through regular print media. Many real estate agents I know would rather spend $4,000 for a website rather than spend $4,000 getting listed in the local telephone book.

In Conclusion:

If you offer web design services and have (CMS) Content Management Systems available to your visitors, this might be the time to consider this ever growing popular service for your company. You won’t regret putting in the effort of developing your own system and marketing it, there is a shifting demand for this ever-popular freedom online.

How Important is Content to a Successful Website

Filed under: Online Web Resources — admin at 7:57 am on Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Content is the most important part of any website.

The Internet was created in the first place as an information source. If the content on your site does not provide the information needed by its users it will provide little in the way of value to your visitors who surf for information on many subjects. They require answers or solutions to their problems, needs, desires and wants. Provide the answers and they will return again and again.

A website is simply a way to communicate whatever message you want to get across. This message needs to answer visitor’s questions or satisfy their need for knowledge. To achieve this aim you will need a content rich website. The content will need to be relevant up to date and well organized and should be written uniquely for each page of your website and should be written as if you are talking to the customers.

Include such items as articles, tips, tutorials things that will hold your visitors interest and get them to return to your site again and again.

Update your content weekly this keeps the site fresh and interesting and Search Engines are always looking for website which offer information useful for their visitors.
A horrible site, which is full of information, will out nearly always, out perform a site, which is great on the eye but lacks any real body (content poor).

When writing content use familiar words and avoid using jargon; which many visitors may not understand.

Keep the number of words to a sentence and the number of sentences within a paragraph to a minimum.

A content rich website which is full of text rather than images will be Search Engine friendly. Search Engines collect their data using spiders. Spiders cannot see images or graphics only text. They can only move from page to page via a text link so it is crucial to have text links to your main section of your website on every page.

Remember to design your website to attract both the visitors and Search Engines. This is essential if you wish your site to be successful.

All the best

Making professional-looking brochures

Filed under: Online Web Resources — admin at 12:28 am on Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Brochures are for displaying services. They are also for selling
an idea or service. If these purposes are put into a list, then
it would be endless. The numerous ways and intentions why people
have and use brochures. No matter what the reason for these
brochures, the main thing is that it should be kept readable,
interesting and very functional in order to become effective. It
should be able to get the peoples’ attention long enough for
them to read what is inside, and remain useful for them to come
back for more in the future.

How can you grab the attention of the readers with just these
pieces of papers?

By making your brochures look professional not only in its
appearance but also in the designs, the way it is written and
printed. To make them appear this way, there are considerations
to think about. What are these?

Doing it with questions. Nothing like a question with an impact
to grab the attention of even those who may have just sneaked a
peak unto these prints. With the right question, even those who
do not have the initial intention of reading them may be too
aroused with curiosity to see what it is about. And maybe to
have the answer to the question that they saw. A style that
works most of the time is asking a question not even related to
what the brochure is about. Or asking the opposite of what the
implication is about. Knowing the question that will work
perfectly would mean perfect attention grabbing and perfect
results in your favor.

Type matters. It is the thing that people will read in your
brochures so typography should be thought of and done properly.
You would not want your readers to judge you as an amateur from
the way you have done your writing. Or giving them the
impression that the services you offer may have that same
careless and irresponsible quality. Writing out words that are
seldom used or incomprehensive will not work either. Some may
not be able to grasp what it is you are trying to say or may not
have no idea whatsoever basing from the words that you are
using. Just the basic understandable words that are also
professional will do just fine.

Making brochures appear professional not only reflects back to
you. It also implies the time and effort you spent on checking
from the most important to the least important details. To sum
it all up, these brochures should cater to the different kinds
of people who might chance upon them and take interest.

Satellite Internet Services

Filed under: Online Web Resources — admin at 7:25 am on Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Internet services enable communication between individuals in the form of sharing information, both text and graphics, and entertainment at a speed. Improved technologies increased the speed by using parallel medium like cable and wireless networks. Satellite Internet technology enabled communication to reach remote locations that were unreachable through other technologies at almost the same speed.

Satellite Internet services are of two types. One-way service uses DVB-IP (Digital Video Broadcast- Internet Protocol), which is only for inbound connectivity. IP multicast protocol enables one-to-many-point communication. This is similar to push technologies like TV and radio where the contents are pushed to the users with little interactivity. Hence, one way service is ideally suited for webpage viewing. The downlink speed is at least 500 kbps.

Two-way services provide complete broadband services to the users. Two-way service enables high-speed access for both download and upload. The upload speed will always be slower than the download speed. This platform is ideal for SOHOs and small and medium enterprises. Satellite Internet technology provides mobile applications that can be mounted on trucks and ships.

Satellite Internet doesn’t allow faster access to Virtual Private Networks, as satellite Internet technology can’t decrypt packet header of data. Besides emails and web surfing, satellite Internet allows for voice over IP, a service very valuable in remote and mobile locations. In large enterprises, failure of standard broadband access such as cable and DSL could mean financial losses. Hence, satellite Internet acts as a business continuity mechanism.

The level of satellite services depend upon the plan provided by the service providers. The scaling up of uploading speed will result in many new services. Latency is a severe constraint in the adoption of this technology.

Satellite Internet provides detailed information on Satellite Internet, Satellite Internet Services, Satellite Internet Access, Satellite Internet Providers and more. Satellite Internet is affiliated with High Speed Internet Services.
